Clara Barton and Forgotten Patriots

Join Park Rangers at the Clara Barton National Historic Site for a powerful program honoring the patriot legacy and the unforgotten contributions of those who shaped our nation.
In commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, the National Park Service will hold a special program with guest speakers at the Clara Barton National Historic Site on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Following the program, an Open House will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Through stories of service, sacrifice, and humanitarian leadership, this special program in collaboration with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) highlights Clara Barton’s enduring impact and the DAR’s commitment and work to preserving the memory of all America’s patriots. Visitors will explore how these histories continue to inspire civic duty, compassion, and national pride today.
Clara Barton's Family Tradition
Clara Barton was a proud and early member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. This event will highlight Clara Barton’s family tradition of service that can be traced back in her family from the Revolutionary War and continued throughout her remarkable life. Clara Barton worked to find missing servicemen after the Civil War and was a strong advocate for women’s rights and African American rights throughout her 50 years of public service.
Forgotten Patriots
This commemorative program will also shed light on the many individuals who served in the Revolutionary War but have often been forgotten. Through the E Pluribus Unum Committee, the Daughters of the American Revolution is focusing on members of underrepresented groups who supported the cause of the American Revolution.
The featured speaker will be Yvonne Liser, National Vice Chair of the Specialty Research (African American) and E Pluribus Unum Committees for the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). Yvonne is a dedicated genealogist and public speaker who is passionate about preserving history and helping others discover their family heritage. Her presentation will highlight several Patriots, including Montgomery County residents Isaac Carr and John Chubb, reminding us that America’s history becomes richer and more complete when we recover the names and contributions of those who were there all along.
