Artist Statement
In this series of paintings, I try to depict the relationship the people of South Louisiana have with the surrounding waterways and landscape. Through the use of color and figures, I am telling a story about the hard working people of this area who make a living off of the Louisiana swampland and river systems to support their families.
I am from Morgan City, LA and the Cajun culture I grew up in and the surrounding area has heavily influenced my work. I try to paint scenes that show a slice of Louisiana life in either at hard work on the water or a reflective moment. In my landscapes, I try to capture the beauty of the swamps and the marshes of Louisiana. I use strong colors because I feel the state we live in is so vibrant and I try to capture that on canvas.
