Hike With a Ranger! Acadia's Trails from the Granite Up

Experience Acadia National Park's trails in a new light on this technical hiking program. Learn how the granite we scramble up, down, and around evolved from magma to the engineered paths of skilled craftsmen we now explore.

Important Visitor Information

  • Ages 10 and up.
  • Child carriers prohibited.
  • No dogs.
  • Program limited to 19 participants.

Trail Conditions

While only 1.5 miles in distance, this is an advanced hiking program involving rocky scrambles, iron rung ladders, steep dropoffs, and more. Attendees should be prepared to scale rocky ascents using their hands and feet. Alternate route will be used in inclimate weather.

Location

Gorham Mountain Trailhead Parking Lot, on the right side of Park Loop Road south of Thunder Hole.

What to Bring

  • 1 liter of water (minimum)
  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Close-toed hiking-specific shoes
  • Layers/rain gear appropriate for forecasted conditions
