Logging On: The Social Lives of Trees: Guided High Elevation Hike (Waterrock Knob Visitor Center - Milepost 451)
Park Event · Blue Ridge Parkway · Oct 23, 2026 · 10:45 AM–12:15 PM

This guided hike will explore the complex networks going on beneath our feet. From root systems to fungi, we will discuss the communication networks of trees. Along the way, we will discuss basic plant identification and the strange and delightful adaptations of our Parkway plants.
The hike will be approximately 1.2 to 2 miles out and back, depending on which trail the ranger chooses to feature. All trails at Waterrock make for a strenuous hike on rocky terrain. Expect the trail to be slick, especially if there has been dense fog or rain recently.
- You must wear closed-toed shoes appropriate for a trail walk.
- Please bring water and rain gear in case of a turn in the weather.
If there is light rain, the hike will continue if everyone is sufficiently prepared. In the event of thunder or other dangerous conditions, the hike will be canceled.
