Program Description

Explore how seemingly simple Sierra meadows are actually complex, life‑rich ecosystems. As you wander, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for these vital yet fragile landscapes.

Program Details

• Length: 1.5 hours along an easy 1.3-mile (2 km) walk
• Location: Begins at the Giant Forest Museum and follows the Big Trees Trail

Getting There

Drive

The Giant Forest Museum is along Generals Highway. Parking is available directly across the road from the museum. However, this lot fills early—often by 10 am. To park at the museum, arriving before mid‑morning is recommended. If lot is full, proceed to next shuttle bus parking area.

Shuttle

The free Sequoia Shuttle operates in Giant Forest and Lodgepole during the summer season. Take Route 1 to reach the Giant Forest Museum. All shuttle buses and routes are wheelchair accessible. Check your park newspaper or bulletin boards for route information.

Walk

Many trails lead to the Giant Forest Museum. Check your park newspaper for a trail map of the Giant Forest.

Accessibility

A portion of this program is ADA accessible. If you plan to participate in only the ADA accessible portion, check in with the ranger at the start of the program and let them know you will meet the group at the accessible parking area and trailhead for the Big Trees Trail.
