California Condor 30th Anniversary Special Event
Join us as we celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the re-release of California condors in the American Southwest.
Don't know what a California condor is? No worries! Learn all about this magnificent bird at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center from 10 am to 4 pm.
Event Schedule
- 10 am – 2 pm: Meet Live Birds with Liberty Wildlife
- Grand Canyon Visitor Center Plaza
- Meet an American kestrel, a turkey vulture, and most importantly the individuals who rehabilitate sick or injured California condors.
- 10:30 am: “Canyon Condor” puppet show with The Great Arizona Puppet Theater
- Grand Canyon Visitor Center Theater
- The Great Arizona Puppet Theater is Arizona’s award-winning puppet theater.
- Canyon Condor follows the growth of a baby condor hatched in the Grand Canyon. It is an entertaining original production about condors and their remarkable path from near extinction to reintroduction to the Grand Canyon and the issues still facing them today. You will laugh, you will learn, you will try not to cry! (40 minutes. Accessible)
- 12 pm: Short Film and Q&A Session with The Peregrine Fund
- Grand Canyon Visitor Center Theater
- View a portion of The American Southwest documentary that highlights the immense resilience of California condors as well as all the individuals from The Peregrine Fund who made this conservation story possible.
- After the film, join Tim Hauck from The Peregrine Fund for a Q&A session. (60 minutes. Accessible)
