Places take shape from the people who move through them, and the Natchez Trace is no exception. For more than ten thousand years, travelers have left their mark on this ancient corridor, using the Old Trace for travel, trade, conflict, and connection. American explorer Meriwether Lewis was among those travelers. He walked this road on his final journey in 1809.

Join a Ranger

Join a ranger for a relaxed forty-five-minute walk to explore the history of the Natchez Trace and Lewis’s connection to it. Please dress for rain or shine, wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes, and bring bug repellent since it is bug season. We will meet at the main restroom parking lot at Milepost 386 on the Natchez Trace Parkway on Saturday, August 22, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM. See you there!
