Important Information

Limited seating is available. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration so another participant may join. Registrants will be placed in their selected boat type, though assignments may be adjusted for safety. Photography for future marketing will take place during this event. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let staff know upon arrival.

Event Overview

Paddle Through History: Grey Cloud Channel & Settlers Island -- Join a National Park Service ranger for a guided canoe and kayak paddle from Hazen P. Mooers Park along the scenic Grey Cloud Channel to Settlers Island. As we explore this quiet stretch of the Mississippi River, we’ll discover the area’s rich cultural heritage and remarkable natural history. Learn about the river’s role in Indigenous lifeways, early settlement, navigation, and conservation while enjoying diverse wildlife, forested shorelines, and peaceful backwaters. This relaxed paddle offers a unique opportunity to experience the stories and landscapes that have shaped one of the Mississippi’s hidden gems.

Registration Includes

One seat in the selected kayak, a paddle, and a PFD provided by Mississippi Park Connection and the National Park Service. Tandem kayak spots must be reserved with a partner. A tandem kayak may not be reserved by a single participant.

Weather & Preparation

Programs proceed rain or shine unless heavy rain or lightning requires cancellation. Decisions are made at least two hours prior to start time. Bring sun protection, insect repellent, rain gear, snacks, and water. Binoculars are encouraged. Do not leave valuables in your vehicle.

Additional Details

Personal boats cannot be accommodated. This program is intended for experienced paddlers comfortable on moving water. Participants must be able to maneuver a kayak on the water.

Age Requirements

Participants must be 18 or older. Youth under 18 may attend only if in a tandem kayak with an adult from the same household.
